Tarmac is made up of crushed stone, gravel, sand & a binder course. The quality of the aggregate selected for use will have an affect on the strength & long term performance of the tarmac. We only use dense high quality, high resistant aggregates which play a large part in the durability & life of your driveway.

No surprise’s the binder used in tarmac is bitumen but it doesn’t stop at that, there are different grades available, but the quality of the bitumen is crucial for the durability of your driveway. Bitumen offers flexibility & water resistance to cured tarmac, our grade of choice is based on traffic use, weight & climate to maximise the durability & lifespan of your driveway.
The depth of a tarmac plays a significant role in the durability of your driveway. Over the years Churchill & Sons have built a robust reputation for high quality, high durability tarmac driveways & the depth of which we install our product plays a major part.

Proper compaction throughout the installation process is crucial, we compact our sub-base in 2 layers before compacting both courses of tarmac with heavy duty commercial rollers to ensure it is densely compact & well bonded to prevent any voids for optimum strength.
